ISLAMIC, Ayyubids. Egypt. al-'Adil I Sayf al-Din Ahmad, AH 596-615 / AD 1200-1218. Dirham (Bronze, 28 mm, 9.36 g, 6 h), Mayyafariqin, AH 591 = 1194/5. Facing bust, wearing headdress and cloak; outer margin, ‘ḍuriba hādhā al-dirham bi mayāfariqīn sana iḥdā’, inner margin, ‘wa tisʿīn ˗ wa khamsa miʾa’ (‘This dirham was struck in Mayyafariqin in the year 591’ in Arabic). Rev. ‘lā ilāh-a illā Allāh / Muḥammad rasūl / Allāh al-ʾimām / al-nāṣir li-dīn / Allāh amīr / al-muʾminīn (‘There is no deity but Allah. Muhammad is the messenger of Allah. Imam al-Nasir li-din Allah, the Commander of the Believers’ in Arabic); in the margin, ‘al-malik al-ʿādil sayf al-dīn Abū Bakr ibn Ayyūb’ (‘The just king Sayf al-Din Abu Bakr, son of Ayyub’ in Arabic).
